Religious bodies of Leh submit 20 point memorandum to UT CC

LEH, (Ladakh), Sept 21: All the religious organisations in Leh which includes Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam, Anjuman Imamiya, All Ladakh Gonpa Association and Christian Association Leh submitted 20 point memorandum to UT Consultative Committee (CC) headed by LAHDC Chairman.
Addressing a press conference LBA president, PT Kunzang flanked by other religious heads said that LBA and LGA in consultation with heads of all religious bodies, initiated a dialogue and brainstorming sessions with various Sections of the society in an attempt to formulating a clearer framework regarding the modalities to be adopted in functioning of the UT of Ladakh and on the basis of that 20 point suggestion were submitted to Consultative Committee today.

The 20 points suggestion includes preservation and protection of the Culture, Language and Ethnicity of Ladakh, Strengthening, empowerment/re-organization and delimitation of LAHDC, promotion of Tourism, Commerce, Trade & Industry, declaration of Ladakh as Tribal Area under Article 244 (2) of the Indian Constitution and protection of land and immovable property.
It demanded inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India, development of educational infrastructure through establishing various institutions and strengthening of primary schools, employment and job reservation, demand for a separate Rajya Sabha seat for Ladakh, complete Tax exemption, Constitutional protection and revival of the Nalanda system of Buddhist Education (Ancient Indian Technique), Judicial jurisdiction of the High Court, establishment of a Sub-Office of CAG (Accountant General), caderization of employees, establishment of PSC and UT Sub-ordinate Board for recruitment, establishment of a separate official Bank as “Ladakh UT Bank”.
It further demanded protection of citizenship rights of the people of Ladakh, establishment of the Minority Commission, strengthening of the Panchayati Raj institutions and promotion of agricultural/land based sectors and encouragement and recognition of Co-operative Societies.
