Relief Commissioner reviews annual budgetary provisions for Migrant Camps

JAMMU, May 19: The annual budgetary provisions (2026-027) for works and services to be implemented by different government departments in the Kashmiri migrant camps were today discussed here at a meeting chaired by Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) J&K, Dr. Arvind Karwani.
The meeting undertook a comprehensive review of basic amenities in the migrant camps. The progress of integration of migrant ration cards into the NFSA database, distribution of ration as per the Special Relief Ration Scheme notified by the Government recently and extension of social sector schemes to the eligible migrant beneficiaries was also reviewed.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Relief, Assistant Commissioners Relief, Chief Accounts Officer Relief Organization and nodal officers from Department of Culture, Employment, Skill Development, Youth Services & Sports, Health, School Education, PWD (R&B), Jal Shakti, JPDCL, H&UDD, UEED, FCS&CA Department, Social Welfare Department, Employment Department, JAKeGA, Rural Development Department and Floriculture. The Principals of Migrant Schools and In-charge Sub-District Hospital Jagti etc also attended the meeting.
The Commissioner reviewed the status of basic amenities like safe drinking water, power supply and sanitation in the camps. He instructed the officers of the Jal Shakti Department to take all requisite measures to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the migrant camps and press adequate water tanker supply in the operation to supplement the water shortage in summers. The JPDCL was asked to explore the possibility of a dedicated feeder line for Mini-Township Jagti. Jammu Municipal Corporation was asked to put additional manpower in place to augment sanitation services.
JAKeGA was asked to install solar lights at the identified additional locations. The Health Department was asked to deploy doctors on rotation to the migrant camps and make the dispensaries fully functional with provision of ambulances. All departments were asked to organize awareness/facilitation camps to generate awareness in the migrant camps and prominent non-camp areas about various Government schemes /services being offered by them.
The Deputy Commissioner Relief and Assistant Commissioners Relief were asked to conduct weekly visits to the camps assigned to them as per the roster of duty and take stock of all development works/problems of migrants, including grievances related to immovable properties in Kashmir Valley.
