JAMMU, May 18: Seeking personal intervention of Lt Governor Girish Chandra Murmu, former minister and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), vice-president, Ghulam Mohammed Saroori has appealed Government to release the pending wages of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and ReT teachers in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press statement issued here today Saroori said that these SSA and Rehber-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers, belonging to poor backgriound, have been facing hardship due to the non-payment salaries for six months and the ongoing lockdown has made their lives miserable. Saroori said that as the country is passing through the tough time, these people have become dependent upon others in absence of no wages.
“They do not have anything in pocket to buy essentials for their families. These people who studied and started serving in rural areas to increase literacy rate, have huge contribution in the education system. However, the authorities concerned have turned blind eye towards their sufferings,” alleged Saroori.
He said that despite being backbone of education system in rural Jammu and Kashmir, SSA and ReT teachers are allegedly facing negligence from the department at the time of COVID-19. These poor people should not be left to face starvation. The Government should ensure that the pending salaries of SSA and ReT teachers are released,” Saroori demanded.
The former minister expressed concern over the lack of vision among the officials in Education Department, who have allegedly discouraged the hard work, by not releasing wages since last six months or more of these teachers.
