Rejuvenating Tawi river

Sir,
J&K Forest Department’s initiative to restore the Tawi River, a lifeline for the Jammu region is a step in right direction. The depletion of forest cover, unchecked soil erosion, and the indiscriminate discharge of untreated sewage into the river have created an alarming ecological imbalance. The timely intervention, funded by CAMPA, is indeed a step in the right direction.
While consultancy and recommendations from experts are crucial, we must stress the importance of tangible on-ground actions. Swift afforestation and the installation of check dams are essential to counter soil erosion and sustain groundwater levels. However, this mission should not be confined to paper but should manifest in action.
Equally vital is the collaboration among all relevant departments to curb the discharge of untreated sewage into the Tawi. Polluted water serves no purpose. We must work as a cohesive team to implement practical solutions. Let us unite to restore the Tawi and preserve the ecological heritage of Jammu and Kashmir for future generations.
