JAMMU, Apr 2: Rehdi-Fadi Workers Union-Jammu, held demonstration under the banner of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) at Press Club – Jammu to protest against the unwanted move of the traffic police to remove Rehdi-Fadis of poor workers.
Their protest continued on the 9th consecutive day today. A large number of Rehdi-Fadi workers across the Jammu city participated in protest program and shouted slogans in favour of their demands and restoration of their Rehdi-Fadis at their previous locations.
Addressing the protesting workers, senior trade union leader Om Parkash condemned the move of traffic police Jammu to forcefully remove Rehdi-Fadis, and beating up of workers. He alleged that a large number of small Rehdi-Fadi workers have been rendered jobless. He demanded that Government must compensate the workers for the loss they suffered and take strict action against the persons responsible for unlawfully detention of poor workers. Sham Parsad Kesar leader CITU members in his address said that the Government has agreed to rehabilitate the displaced venders within a period of one month but nothing has happened. He claimed that the struggle will continue till their appropriate rehabilitation is made. He further said that still the traffic police has not stopped the anti-workers move and forceful evicting Rehdi-Fadis of workers. He urged upon all workers to intensify their struggle till their demands are met.
When they tried to take out protest march towards Dogra Chowk and Gumat, the police stopped them and did not allow to do so. They held protest there for some time and then dispersed at the same point.
Others who spoke on this occasion included Ramesh Bhat, Jagdish Sharma, Jia Lal Parihar, Om Parkash, president Rehdi-Fadi Union. They demanded early restoration of their earning and to allow them to engage with their Rehdi-Fadis so that this marginalized section of the society is able to earn their livelihood.
