Rehabilitation of Gujjars

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Gujjars for rehabilitation of nomadic tribes in J&K’ DE Oct 10.
Gujjar community in the State is one of unique communities  in India. It deserves rehabilitation at some places to ensure its holistic welfare. While on the move from one place to another, the nomads do not have access to various welfare programmes announced by the Governments State or Central. They do not have access even to proper medicare or education. It is very difficult for the Government or any agency to provide them these facilities at the place of their temporary residence. Mobile schools were opened for them, but these schools have failed to achieve their objectives.
Unless the Gujjar community is rehabilitated at a particular place, their social upward mobility may suffer terribly.
The Gujjars have been demanding their permanent rehabilition but their pleas have so far cut no ice with the Government.
Yours etc….
