Regularize safai-karamcharis before Yatra or face agitation: SKUULB

JAMMU, May 24: Safai Karamchari Union Urban Local Bodies (SKUULB) today threatened to launch a State wide agitation against Government, if authorities failed to regularize all casual labour working as safai-karamcharis, before starting of Amarnath Yatra.
A meeting of union was held here under the chairmanship of its president Dev Anand Gill wherein all the office bearers hailing from Kathua, Reasi, Samba, Akhnoor, Bishnah, RS Pura, Katra, Udhampur and members of tehsil level committees took part.
Speaking on the occasion, Gill said that earlier on April 24 this year, the union members called on Director Local Bodies, Kuldeep Khajuria, who assured that regularization of all casual workers in Municipal Committees and other Government Departments will be taken up after lifting of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), imposed in wake of general elections, but till this date nothing happens on ground.
The members also resolved to launch a State wide agitation if the regularization of all casual labour working as safai-karmcharis across the State and absorption of all 1413 NGO workers in Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) instead of 600 as casual labourers will not ordered before the starting of Amarnath Yatra.
The members also decided to call on Minister Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora, who will attend summer secretariat in Jammu next week.
