JAMMU, Oct 8: Former minister and senior vice president J&K PCC, Sham Lal Sharma today said that the time has now come to grant regional autonomy to Jammu and other regions of the State in order to put an end to the disparity among the three regions and to frustrate designs of disintegrating the State.
While addressing monthly meeting of Block Congress Committee at Akhnoor, he said there is consensus among all the parties for granting regional autonomy to Jammu and hence the Central Government should do needful at the right earnest so that regional discrimination is put to an end.
“While the Congress party has raised this issue both in and outside the State Assembly vociferously, the ruling BJP is already in favour of the same and therefore it is high time for the Central Government to grant regional autonomy to all the three regions which will pave way for peace and tranquility in the State,” he explained.
Sham further said that that Panthers Party and the Kashmir-centric National Conference were also on the same page when it comes to putting an end to the discrimination against the Jammu region by granting it regional autonomy.
“J&K State has three regions and each region has different issues. The people of these regions have general complaints about discrimination against each other. Jammu has been facing total discrimination in respect of recruitment, distribution of funds etc and for a permanent end to this step motherly treatment, there is an urgent need to grant regional autonomy to all the three regions,” the Congress leader said.
Taking a dig at BJP for its failure to fulfill aspirations of Jammu people, Sham Lal Sharma said that the party which used to boast that it would abrogate Article 370 once it comes to power, has even failed to get a holiday declared on the birthday of great Dogra ruler of J&K despite being an equal coalition partner in the Government.
“For the lust of power, BJP has completely surrendered before the Kashmir centric PDP, which is against the interest of Jammuities. The people of Jammu are feeling themselves cheated by the BJP MLAs and Ministers,” he said.
