Refugees serve ultimatum to Centre on rehabilitation package

Jammu, Nov 16: The scheduled Maha Panchayat of Pak occupied Jammu Kashmir refugees for discussing the political course of action in ongoing Assembly elections, was today converted into Maha Rosh Rally, following the reports that Central Government has raised queries on the State Government’s comprehensive relief package of PoK displaced persons.
In the rally, which was organized under the banner of S. O. S. International-An organization for displaced persons from PoK, an ultimatum was served to the BJP-led NDA Government in Centre to accept the package within a week’s time or face wrath of the displaced community in Assembly elections.
A large number of PoK refugees, including women and elderly persons, took part in the Maha Rosh Rally, which was organized at Rehari Colony Jammu under the leadership of S. O. S. International chairman Rajiv Chuni.
While addressing the gathering, Rajiv Chuni lambasted the BJP-led Central Government for trying to sabotage the rehabilitation proposal of the displaced community, submitted by the State
Government. He alleged that the BJP Government did not want to help the PoK refugee by making excuses on the name of West Pakistani refugees.
The rehabilitation proposal of 1947, 1965 and 1971 displaced persons, which was sent by the State Government after duly approved by the State Cabinet has reportedly been clubbed by the Central Government with the issue of refugees of West Pakistan which is altogether different and cannot be connected with the PoK as these people are State Subjects of Jammu and Kashmir while as the West Pakistan refugees are not the residents of J&K, Rajiv Chuni explained.
Questioning the BJP’s stand on the issue, he, said that the party which claimed to have always advocated for the cause of rehabilitation of the displaced persons, was now sabotaging the proposed rehabilitation of the community, which has been suffering for the last sixty years.
It indicates the ill intention and non-serious approach of the BJP Government in the Centre. This will have a serious repercussion as lakhs of displaced persons, who are fighting for their just cause, will teach a lesson to the BJP in Assembly elections, if they do not get their dues,” he warned and served an ultimatum of one week to the
Central Government to consider the proposal of PoK refugees or face boycott of the displaced community in polls.
Coming heavily on the BJP, Lalit Kumar, secretary, pooh-poohed the double standard of NDA government led by Narinder Modi, who is trying to himself as good governance and minimum government but here he failed to deliver justice to PoK refugees.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Roshan Lal, Gurmeet Singh, Bishan Bakshi, Anil Bakshi, Sumit Gupta and Vijay Sharma.
