JAMMU, Feb 24: The three-week Inter-Disciplinary Refresher Course on Disaster Management concluded today at University of Jammu (JU).
V K Singh, Director General of Police cum Commandant General of Home Guards, Civil Defense and State Disaster Response Force, was the chief guest of the valedictory function.
The Course was organized by UGC-HRDC and Department of Geology, University of Jammu and was attended by 49 Assistant Professors of different colleges and Universities of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering, V K Singh said that such type of courses increase the awareness and level of preparedness amongst the teachers. He hoped that the participants would further disseminate the knowledge gained here to their students and increase the awareness about the disaster management.
Earlier Professor Rahul Gupta, Director, UGC-HRDC informed the gathering about the objectives of such refresher courses organized by the HRDC. He also said that in future the online refresher courses can also be done by the University and college teachers without leaving their place of stay.
Detailed report of the Refresher Course was presented by Professor Pankaj Srivastava, the course coordinator and Head, Department of Geology. Prof Srivastava informed the gathering that the participants were trained in different aspects of disaster management. He said that the participants were not only provided the theoretical knowledge but were also demonstrated the rescue techniques by SDRF 2nd Battalion. First aid training and demonstration of equipment used in the rescue operations at High Altitude were also the highlight of the course, he added.
Prof G M Bhat, Prof Dipankar Sengupta, Prof K K Kapoor, Prof S K Pandita, Prof Pawan Kumar were some of the resource persons who were also present in the programme. The Valedictory session also saw the distribution of Certificates to the participants.
The function concluded with vote of thanks presented by Ranjeet Kalra, Teaching Faculty, HRDC.
