Today, the 9th of May 2014, the polling for the 16th Lok Sabha comes to an end. Results will be announced on 16th May and then there will be profusion of commentaries on each and every aspect of polling. This time 814 million people had to vote for the election of 543 representatives in the Lok Sabha. This stupendous task has been performed with precision and to the satisfaction of one and all. Despite violence at many places like the Naxalites and Maoists in the East and jihadis in north of India, brisk polling has taken place which varies from 76 per cent to 23 per cent. Voting in Andhra Pradesh is the highest ever at 73.46 per cent against 72.63 per cent in the last elections. On an average voting has increased in the country from 57.74 per cent in the last elections to 66.27 per cent in the ongoing elections. It is expected that the average voting this time will go up after the votes cast by ballot are counted and added to whatever categories they are assigned.
This indicates that our democracy is on the march to progress.
