Recalibrating India’s national security doctrine

Sir,
The article “Decisive Action Against Pakistan’s Proxy Warfare” (Daily Excelsior, May 7) presents a timely and bold analysis.
For too long, India’s restrained responses to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism have emboldened its adversaries. A mere reactive stance has proven ineffective in deterring future attacks. The suggestion to adopt a doctrine of decisive retaliation-targeting not just terrorists but their enablers-is both pragmatic and necessary.
Additionally, integrating efforts to reclaim Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and exploring strategic leverage through the Indus Waters Treaty can fundamentally shift the power balance. Cooperation with Baloch nationalist movements could further destabilize Pakistan’s internal coherence.
India must now replace diplomatic appeals with a cohesive national security strategy that imposes real costs on Pakistan’s actions. This recalibration is critical to safeguard Indian lives and sovereignty.
