Ready for third wave, but people must follow rules: Principal

Jammu, July 1: Principal GMC,Jammu Dr.Shashi Sudan Sharma in a press conference today thanked Prime Minister Narender Modi for appreciating the work and sacrifices of doctors and health care workers in fighting the COVID-19 Pandemic. She also appreciated the work of all Faculty Members, paramedical staff and adminstration in contributing to fight the 2nd wave.
She conveyed that inspite of very virulent strain during second wave, GMC, Jammu did a commendable job and inspite of huge rush of patients, “we were able to provide oxygen supported bed,free medicines and food to every patient. The oxygen supported beds were increased from 200 to 967 during the 2nd wave.”
She lauded the Medical professionals for thier untiring efforts during pandemic. Regarding preparations for the 3rd wave, she said that Infrastructure augumentation and procurement of machinery /equipments as per guidelines is going on a fast track basis, more than 800 health care workers have been recruited and the induction training of new appointees including DRDO staff, refresher courses for old staff as well as training of health care workers deputed from peripheral Hospitals is going on simultaneously in GMC, Jammu.
She assured everyone that if the third wave of Corona comes, then they are fully ready to deal with it. She also requested each and every one to get themselves vaccinated and follow COVID appropriate including wearing mask, hand hygiene, social distancing and avoiding social gatherings to stay safe from this deadly virus.
She said that it is only when everyone owns individual responsibility then we can win this war against COVID-19 pandemic. She was accompanied by HoD’s,administrators and Matrons during the press conference.
