Re-polling demanded for Akhnoor DGPC seat

JAMMU, July 2: Alleging polling of non-Sikh votes during DGPC elections in Akhnoor constituency, the contesting candidate Sukhjit Singh has demanded re-polling at all the ten polling stations of Akhnoor constituency.

Talking to media persons here today, Sukhjit Singh, demanded exclusion of non-Sikh polled votes from DGPC Akhnoor constituency No. 5, included erroneously in the electoral roll of all the 10 polling stations on which the election was held on June 27, 2022.
Singh claimed that Returning Officer DGPC elections had ordered for deletion of all the non-Sikh voters vide order No. ENT/J/2022/23/1182-92 dated 11-6-2022 with direction to all the AROs but the order was not implemented on the ground by the concerned authorities despite complaint lodged by one of the contesting candidates, Prem Singh.
He alleged that it was clear violation of DGPC, Gurudwara Act / Rules which effected the faith of the Sikh community. Moreover, defence personnel on duty , deceased persons, civil/ private and Central Govt workers/ employees out of JKUT were polled on the election day, Singh alleged.
Seeking intervention of Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha, he said that concerned authorities be directed to verify the electoral rolls of all the polling stations of Akhnoor constituency by deleting non-Sikh / fake/ deceased voters. He further strongly demanded that re-polling be held on all the 10 polling stations of Akhnoor constituency.
