JAMMU, Dec 10: Flaying the Public Service Commission (PSC) for announcing the viva voce for college lecturers’ posts on the basis of advertisement issued in 2008-09, chairman of JKNPP and former Education Minister Harshdev Singh lamented that the said decision would deprive thousands of aspiring candidates who had acquired eligibility for the said posts after the year 2008.
Supporting the cause of educated youth who acquired eligibility for the lecturers posts after the year 2008, Mr Singh sought the re-advertisement of said posts so as to allow such youth to participate in the selection process. He said that with the PSC having failed to conduct the selection process for the last 6-7 years, it would not make any difference if the same is postponed for another six months so as to allow all the qualified and eligible candidates to appear in the same. He said that re-advertisement of posts is further justified on the ground that the number of advertised posts as per the advertisement notice of 2008 was quite higher than the number of aspiring candidates at the said point of time.
Elucidating his point, Mr Singh said that the PSC had advertised 242 posts of English in 2008 as against which only 150 candidates had applied. Likewise, he said that as against 49 advertised posts of Maths lecturers only 52 candidates had applied and for 62 physics posts, only 90 candidates had applied.
Making out a strong case for advertisement of the lecturers posts in various disciplines, Harshdev pointed out that even the Supreme Court had held in its various judgments that the selection process should be made as broad based as possible by ensuring that maximum number of eligible candidates are allowed to participate in the selection process. He said that depriving the candidates would therefore not only be socially and politically incorrect but legally offensive as well. NPP leader further said that the Govt as well as the PSC must further appreciate that it takes time to complete PhD, NET and SLET and denying the eligible candidates the chances of appearing in the current selections would amount to their long life deprivation.
