Sir,
This refers to article titled “Managing waste by fueling cement kilns” by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat published in Daily Excelsior on 2.01.2018. The author has given very valuable information about an alternate source of fuel for Cement Plants called Refused Derived Fuel (RDF) which is obtained by processing non Bio degradable waste (plastic , polythene etc).
As author has suggested it would be advisable that waste management companies that process non bio degradable waste and manufacture RDF should be invited to visit various landfill sites in Srinagar , Jammu , Udhampur , Samba , Kathua , Anantnag , Baramulla , Sopore and other major towns of state. Our authorities particularly the Municipal institutions like SMC , JMC and Directorates of Urban Local Bodies Kashmir / Jammu must give incentives to RDF manufacturing companies and organisations undertaking waste management work. Unless we do welcome waste management companies with open arms, the waste in J&K will not at all be treated and creating RDF like fuel will be a distant dream for us.
I congratulate CM’s Advisor Pradeep Singh for his sincere efforts towards management of municipal solid waste. Earlier he took a team of municipal officers to Indore and very recently he lead a group of people associated with cement manufacturing business for an exposure trip to see how RDF works as a fuel in cement plants in Hyderabad , Raipur and Gulbarga (Karnataka). JK Cements will fully cooperate with Government in its endeavor towards use of RDF in cement plants, but before RDF is allowed an alternate fuel , the cement plant owners should be taken into complete confidence.
Yours etc….
