SUNDERBANI, July 20: JKPCC chief spokesperson and former MLC Ravinder Sharma has said that farmers are getting huge losses as there is huge damage to the maize crop due to large scale disease hitting the crop.
During a tour of Sunderbani and its adjoining areas, Sharma inspected the maize crop and found that there is large scale disease affecting the seventy percent crop. The farmers complained about the quality of the seed supplies by the department concerned which contained infection of the disease affecting seventy percent of standing maize crop.
The farmers apprised him that they can’t afford the insecticides prescribed to control the disease and they are facing economic hardships.
He urged the Government to immediately conduct a survey of loss to maize crop and also order enquiry into the quality of seed supplied by the department to farmers.
