Ration dealers woes

The working of Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) often remains in news for mal administration and mismanagement. One such instance has recently come to light in that it has failed in paying commission and carriage charges of food grains worth over Rs. 5 crore to ration dealers in Jammu for nearly more than 10 months. The number of such ration dealers is over 300. The ration dealers are feeling sore about non-payment of their dues and have resolved not to lift ration from Feb1, 2020 should their outstanding dues not be paid .
When certain procedures are changed, perhaps, for the betterment and convenience of the people , the same needs proper planning and execution. Since previously the lifting and transporting food grains supplied to ration card holders at ration depots used to be arranged by the department itself but for four years the new system that of outsourcing the same by ration dealers at mutually accepted cost needs to be paid to them on monthly basis which was somehow being done but for the last 10 months, the same has not been paid which the authorities concerned must look into and resolve so that the public was not put to any inconvenience.
