When Jammu is progressing fast, the roads have not been developed proportionally, leading to regular traffic snarls in the city. Now a days Jammu city is witnessing traffic congestion problems particularly in the morning and evening hours which in a way deteriorates the overall traffic system. Growing traffic in Jammu city is linked with growing number of accidents and fatalities which is a cause of concern for everyone and need to be rectified as soon as possible.But more surprising and awkward thing that comes to the limelight is the rash and negligent driving by the drivers of the mini-buses so called matadors in our city.
Fast and negligent driving by mini bus drivers can be observed particularly from Bohri to Bus Stand route and Talab Tillo camp to Jewel route. Also these mini buses overtake each other for their own selfish interests and thus have become their daily routine as well. This creates havoc among the other commuters and sometimes results into fatal accidents of innocent people. Overloading of matadors can be observed everywhere and has become grave cause of concern. There are not even fixed stops for these mini buses, they stop wherever they find any passenger which in turn results into traffic jams.
Now it is upto the hands of concerned Traffic Department that some stringent laws be enacted so that rash and negligent drivers should be awarded deterrent punishment as they leniency shown to them could increase the number of road accidents in the city.Any latitude shown to them in that sphere would tempt them to make driving frivolous and a frolic, which endanger the life of public at large. It is the need for the hour that the concerned Traffic Department must takes this issue and must formulates a solution that should be practical and pragmatic in nature.
