JAMMU, Oct 21: A composite mixture of folk, religious and contemporary songs by Ananyaa and Ananta Gaur mesmerized the audience today at Abhinav Theatre in the ongoing “Rangleela Natya Utsav’, a national theatre festival being held here.
Organised by Laksya-The Aim and co-powered by Nutan Prayas Manch, in today’s evening entitled as ‘An Odyssey at Dusk’ the female duo sang various songs of renowned singers like Mullicka Pukhraaj, Begum Akhtar, Fareeda Khanum and Surinder Kour.
The audience was treated with famous hits like ‘Pal Pal Baee Jaana’, ‘Haye O Mere Daadya Rabba’, ‘Aye Mohabbat’, ‘Dasht-e-Tanhai Mein’ and other songs. Demands for various songs kept in pouring from the audience which was reciprocated by the singers whose melodious voice created a mystical aura throughout. The duo were accompanied Kartikeya Vahisht on flute, Shahnawaz Khan on sarangi and Neeraj Kumar on tabla.
Ananyaa Gaur is an interdisciplinary practitioner for whom music is a way of expressing herself and connecting within. Trained in multiple music idioms her performances include a broad repertoire of ghazals, nirgun bhajans, folk songs, classical renditions, with a keen interest in secular music traditions. An Urdu Academy awardee, she has co-created various programmes, conducted workshops, and as part of the Gandharva choir performed across India and abroad.
Ananta Gaur, a Ministry of Culture Scholarship holder for classical vocals has been learning Hindustani classical vocal since the age of four. Having travelled across India and abroad, she sings folk songs in multiple languages along with nirgun poetry and ghazals. She is also the voice behind a few episodes of Sesame Street — Gali Gali Sim Sim.
