Rangarajan resigns as PM’s Economic Advisory Council Chairman

NEW DELHI: Dr C Rangarajan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC), resigned today, official sources said here.

Dr Rangarajan, who has also served as the Reserve Bank of India Governor, met the outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and handed the resignation to him.

He was also a member of the Planning Commission and a member of the tenth Finance Commission in the Reserve Bank.   The sources said other members of the five-member Council are also expected to resign as the term of the Council is co-terminus with that of the Prime Minister.   The other Council members are: Dr Saumitra Chaudhuri, Dr V S Vyas, Dr Pulin B Nayak and Dr Dilip M Nachane.   Dr Alok Sheel is the Secretary.
