JAMMU, Sept 20: Member Legislative Council (MLC), Ch. Vikram Randhawa along with Corporator, Rahul Kumar, today kick-started up-gradation work of Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
While speaking on the occasion Randhawa said that the parks are a tangible reflection of the quality of life in a community as they provide an identity for citizens and are a major factor in the perception of the quality of life. He said that the Green Belt Park is one of the famous Parks of Jammu city which needs to be preserved and kept neat and clean.
He said that the following breakage in the fence at certain places stray animals and dogs were getting easy access to the park and were creating nuisance for those visiting the park. He said that following complaints by the locals the matter was taken up with the Floriculture Department and the work has been today started to repair the entire fence so that no stray animal or dog enters the park.
Randhawa said that the parks are proven to improve the quality of the air we breathe, provide vegetative buffers to development, produce habitat for wildlife, and provide a place for children and families to connect with nature and recreate outdoors together and it is the moral responsibility of all citizens to keep these places neat and clean.
He further said that Jammu being a tourist destination these parks, if maintained properly, can become a centre of attraction for those visiting the City of Temples. He assured the people that the Government focused on increasing the influx of tourists in Jammu and all options for the purpose will be explored.
He also directed AEE Floriculture, Rafiq Ahmed and his team, who were also present on the occasion, to ensure proper maintenance of the park.
