Randhawa asks SKUAST to pay Govt rate to farmers for land

JAMMU, May 27: The former Member Legislative Council (MLC) Vikram Randhawa has asked the administration of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Jammu (SKUAST-J) to pay Government rate to the farmers for acquiring their agricultural land.
Randhawa, who in the request of the villagers today visited Chatha Pind, Chatha Farm, Barjala, Mangu Chak, Shahzadpur, Nandpur and Khandwal was informed by the villagers that the SKUAST is acquiring around 8000 kanals of land of these villages for its project but is paying just Rs 55,000 per kanal which is too low. The villagers informed the former MLC that around 1000 families will loose their land who are fully dependent on farming for their survival.
Randhawa after listening to the farmers from these villages assured them that they will be paid the rate fixed by the Government in the area, in case SKUAST acquires their land otherwise no one can take away their land from them.
Randhawa further asked the SKUAST administration that the people don’t want to be bottleneck in their prestigious project but they deserve to get the rate fixed by the Government in the area. He said that the Revenue Department has fixed a rate of Rs 11 lakh per kanal in the area and how SKUAST is offering them just Rs 55,000 per kanal?
“Moreover, one member of each affected family must be given employment by the SKUAST as per the qualification of the candidate”, Randhawa added. He said that any forcible move will result in stir.
Those present on the occasion include Naib Sarpanch Bahadur Lal, Jagga Choudhary Panch, Romi Kumar Panch, Bharat Bhushan Mandal President, Neeraj Gupta, Waryam Chand, Purshotam Lal, Khazan Chand, Hans Raj, Girdhari Lal, Om Kumar, Surinder Singh and others.
