JAMMU, Dec 2: Former National Conference MLA and Party president Pir Panjal Zone, Javed Ahmed Rana called on the Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta here today and highlighted the problems being faced by the people of Pir Panjal.
Commissioner Secretary, Public Works (R&B), Shailendra Kumar was also present during the meeting.
Various issues pertaining to the Pir Panjal region were brought to the notice of Dr. Mehta by the former Legislator included the overall absence of good governance in every sector, the dilapidated condition of the roads in the region besides the non-implementation of schemes meant for weaker sections of the society.
The senior NC leader apprised the Chief Secretary that recently conducted district level good governance survey has revealed the poor performance of the governance at several districts of the state. He said that since there is no duly elected government in place therefore the woes of the people are multiplying with each passing day.
While raising concern over the dilapidated condition of roads in general, Rana said that all the roads in the zone are lying in a deplorable condition and urged the Chief Secretary to take serious note of the issue and take proactive measures to improve the condition of these roads before the harsh winter reaches the peak. He conveyed the anguish of the people over Border Roads Organization’s (BRO) total failure in proper maintenance and repair of the road network falling under their jurisdiction in the Pir Panjal Zone.
Specifically referring to the issue of BG Bolnoi Road, the NC leader said that this road falling in Mendhar tehsil continues to be in a highly dilapidated condition for the last six years. He said that it is an irony of the people of this region that despite the J&K Govt having handed over this road to PMGSY with endorsement that Rs 80 crores was sanctioned and released for construction of the same road after due tendering process, but BRO is not allowing construction of this road. He asked CS Mehta and Comm Secy Shailendra Kumar to ask the BRO authorities to handover the BG Balnoi road to PMGSY.
