Rana elected Deputy Chairman

SRINAGAR, Oct 10: National Conference MLC from Mendhar constituency Javed Rana was today elected as Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council after a voice vote.
Rana’s name was proposed by Leader of the House Ajay Sadhotra and Congress MLC Bashir Ahmad Magray and seconded by Devender Singh Rana of National Conference and Naresh Kumar Gupta of Congress.
“I am grateful to my Party for choosing me for this vital responsibility. Though there are difficulties and lot of responsibilities, yet I oblige to the Party’s decision,” Rana told reporters at a press conference in the Legislative Complex, held immediately after the election.
“I will use this opportunity to raise the issues facing my area (Rajouri and Poonch) and try to address them,” he said.
The post had fallen vacant after the term of incumbent Mohammad Yousuf Taing as MLC had expired last year.
Rana, a Law Graduate from Jammu University, has represented his constituency in the Legislative Assembly till 2008, which he lost in 2009 and was made MLC by his party in 2009.
