JAMMU, July 4: To assess the pace of work on the projects undertaken under transport sector, Minister for CA&PD, Transport, Ch. Mohammad Ramzan today conducted an extensive tour of Jammu city.
The Minister was accompanied by Transport Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma, Vice Chairman JDA, Satish Nehru, Director CAPD G.S Chib, Regional Transport Officer, Arvind Kotwal, SSP Traffic, Manmohan Singh, ARTO Jammu Kuldeep Singh and ARTO Jugal Sharma and other senior officers of the Motor Vehicle Department and CAPD.
During his visit to various localities, the Minister inspected Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) Transport Nagar, spread over an area of 72 kanal land. The Minister was apprised that 130 shops would be constructed at ISBT to rehabilitate the affected traders. The Minister was also informed that ISBT has ample place for parking with other necessary facilities.
The Minister also visited Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Khanpura, Nagrota, and inspected the pace of work on the site which is being constructed by Jammu Development Authority. He was apprised that the workshop, passenger sheds, dhabas, accommodation for night halt for passengers and other vital facilities are being provided for convenience of people associated with transport sector. The Minister said that focus is being laid to upgrade every facility and asked VC, JDA to expedite the pace of work to ensure better infrastructure.
He also interacted with transporters and traders who appraised about their demands and problems which included permission to park their commercial vehicles at ISBT, proper functioning of Weigh Bridge etc. The Minister gave them patient hearing and assured that their genuine demands would be given due consideration and the matter would be discussed with the concerned corners.
Minister also visited General Bus Stand and took stock of services being provided to the visitors. Transport Commissioner apprised the Minister that pre-paid service is also available at ISBTs to check the menace of overcharging and profiteering.
Earlier, the Minister inspected the 9 kanal JDA site at Shakti Nagar proposed for construction of Directorate CAPD Office.
Later, the Minister visited the Regional Transport Office to review the functioning of the department besides facilities provided to the people. The Minister called for strict implementation of Motor Vehicle Act and asked the enforcement agencies to keep their activities at maximum to ensure better transport system.
