SAMBA, July 27: The People of Ramgarh held a strong protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) for the prevailing power crisis in the border belt.
The protest was led by Mohan Singh Pati and Billu Chaudhary the local leaders of the area.
They, while showing their resentment against the failure of the concerned Department for its failure in providing round the clock power supply alleged that though the issue was raised before the concerned Executive Engineer and other officers of the Department many times earlier also but they failed to improve the power supply with the result the people are suffering in this hot and humid temperature. They said that the farmers have been put to problem as their water pumps are not working due to power failure and authorities are not bothered for the same.
Moreover, the old aged persons and infirm are worst hit by the power crisis and the school and college going children also can’t study in the darkness during early morning, evening and night hours but there is no body to hear the woes of the people they alleged.
They said previously the demonstrations were also held against the Department but the officers were unmoved. The Department collects the tariff every month but fails to supply the round the clock power to consumers.
They said that the people have demanded the transfer of concerned Executive Engineer, but till date neither he was transferred nor the power supply has been improved. Despite the continuous protests, only four hours electricity is being supplied in 24 hours, due to which the people of the area have to pass through difficult times.
They said due the Corona epidemic, people have to remain indoors, but children and the old aged persons are totally upset due to power curtailments which has added to their mental agony also.
Mohan Singh has also warned that the people of entire border belt will be forced to intensify the agitation in case the PDD fails to solve the problem and ensure proper power supply in the border belt. He has also sought immediate intervention of Chief Engineer M&RE towards the issue.
He said the people of the area have also given several memorandums to SDM Vijaypur in this regard but to no avail.
