JAMMU, July 22: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be visiting the BJP office in the afternoon of July 24 to review party’s preparations ahead of Assembly elections and political situation in Jammu and Kashmir with 25 selected prominent party leaders.
The meeting has been added in schedule of Rajnath Singh who was earlier due to honour kin of nearly 2000 martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir since 1947 at a function being organized by Jammu and Kashmir People’s Forum (JKPF).
Insiders told the Excelsior that Rajnath will visit BJP’s Trikuta Nagar office at 1.30 pm and meet 25 senior selected leaders of the party for about one-and-a half-hour and discuss with them working of the party, political situation in Jammu and Kashmir and party’s preparations for the Assembly elections whenever they are held.
Rajnath’s visit to the BJP office and his meeting with senior party leaders assumed significance as it comes close on the heels of speculations that Assembly elections could be held in Jammu and Kashmir either by end of this year or start of next year.
During his last visit to Jammu on June 16, Rajnath had indicated that electoral process in the Union Territory could start in December.
“Rajnath Singh will be visiting the party office and holding meeting with senior BJP leaders to review their preparations for Assembly elections, other ongoing political activities and overall political situation in the UT which is without an elected Government for last over four years now,” the insiders said.
Senior BJP leaders have started preparations for Rajnath’s visit to the party office.
Insiders said the senior BJP leaders will give detailed briefing to the Defence Minister on party’s preparations for the Assembly polls as and when they are held besides ongoing activities of the party especially for welfare of the people across the Union Territory and overall political situation.
The BJP, as per the senior leaders, will be targeting formation of next Government in Jammu and Kashmir though it knows that it was an uphill task to gain majority on its own.
This will be the first meeting being chaired by a senior party leader and Union Minister at the BJP office here after finalization of Delimitation Commission report and announcement of Special Summary Revision for Jammu and Kashmir by the Election Commission of India dropping enough hints about conduct of Assembly elections in the Union Territory.
As reported, Rajnath will first address a function organized by Jammu and Kashmir People’s Forum at Gulshan Ground in which over 2000 kin of martyrs of Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) since 1947 will be honoured.
Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale will also attend the function. Senior leaders of BJP and RSS among others too will join.
The Defence Minister will return to New Delhi after chairing the BJP meeting.
The BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have already started touring different parts of the UT.
The party leaders said some more senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers will also visit Jammu and Kashmir after August 15. The Monsoon session of Parliament will adjourn on August 12 and the Government as well as the BJP will be busy in August 15 celebrations.
“After August 15, we are expecting visits of more senior leaders including the Union Ministers to Jammu and Kashmir,” they said, adding the party will brace up for the Assembly elections whether they are held are not.
