JAMMU, May 16: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to visit the State next week for a review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in context of the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra.
This was conveyed to Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister J&K, who called on Rajnath Singh at the latter’s official residence in New Delhi, this afternoon.
During the hour long meeting, sources said, Dr Nirmal Singh apprised the Union Home Minister about the latest political and security situation in Jammu and Kashmir vis-à-vis forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to begin from July 2.
Besides extending an informal invitation to the Union Home Minister for Amarnath pilgrimage, Dr Nirmal Singh also demanded an increase in the honorarium of SPOs and due recognition to the Goa freedom fighters in J&K at par with other parts of the country, sources added.
