NEW DELHI: Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said the Centre has called for an all-party meet on August 12 to restore normalcy in Kashmir and blamed Pakistan for the continuing unrest in the State.

”Whatever is happening in Kashmir is all sponsored by Pakistan,” said Mr Singh in his reply to an eight-hour-long debate in the Rajya Sabha after a large number of MPs expressed concern over the continued 33-day curfew in the Valley.

He said besides Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, he had met a cross section of the people during his visit to Srinagar and Anantnag on July 23-24.

While assuring that there was no scarcity of essential items in the State, he also admitted the use of pellet guns which had resulted in large number of eye injuries among the civilian population. Saying while he was not trying to defend the use of pellet guns, the Home Minister said he had advised the defence personnel to use maximum restraint while dealing with the civilian population  and set up a committee to review its use and submit its report at the earliest.
