JAMMU, May 24: Rajesh Gupta, the Chief of the National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) in Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed deep concern regarding the rising number of road accidents in the region.
In a statement released today, Gupta specifically referred to the recent Kishtwar accident, in which eight people lost their lives and several others sustained serious injuries after a cruiser vehicle from the Pakal Dul Project met with an accident.
Expressing shock and anguish, Gupta urged the authorities to implement a preventive strategy to curb accidents rather than relying solely on post-accident measures.
He highlighted the poor condition of roads in hilly areas, emphasizing that their deteriorated state makes them prone to accidents.
Gupta stated that numerous lives have been lost, and many people have suffered severe injuries due to road accidents in these areas.
Gupta called upon the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, to prioritize human lives, emphasizing that a person’s life is more valuable than anything else.
He further emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a significant number of fatalities last year, marking the highest toll in a decade.
Gupta acknowledged that while the conflict in the region often dominates headlines, it is essential to address the issue of road accidents, which disproportionately affects the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
