JAMMU, Jan 23: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, today visited Katra and reviewed the security arrangements for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, at a meeting in which senior Police, CRPF and Shrine Board officers participated.
Accompanied by Additional Directors General of Police, S. P. Vaid, V. K. Singh and Dilbag Singh, the DGP visited Banganga entry gate, Railway Station, Police Station Katra and other important locations around Katra. He took on spot stock of security arrangements put in place for the security of the devotees visiting the shrine.
Mr. Rajendra, sought reports from the officers involved for the security of the pilgrims about various aspects of security right from entry gate to the shrine, besides Railway Station and Bus Stands. He was apprised that effective arrangements have been made to ensure security of the devotees enroute the Bhawan. Besides deployment of man power from different police forces, CCTVs have been installed at all vital locations to keep an eye on the activities of suspected persons.
Men in civis are also deployed to gather information about any suspicious movement in the area. The deployed personnel and the CCTVs remain functional round the clock and the locations like Railway Station, entry gate and Bhawan are being monitored continuously to foil any untoward attempt.
The DGP stressed upon the officers to review the functioning of all security gadgets including CCTVs and get the faulty equipments replaced whenever it comes into notice. He said that all pilgrims and their baggage should be got checked and screened at the entry gate so that no suspected element succeeds to sneak into the area.
Mr. Rajendra asked for regular meetings of joint control room, established to ensure coordination among the deployed forces and Shrine Board. He said that different aspects should be reviewed in the meetings to strengthen the security grid of Bhawan and other busy places. He also asked for better services for the pilgrims to make the places hassle free and their journey safe, convenient.
Security on railway track was also discussed in the meeting and it was informed that railway track from Jammu to Udhampur and Katra is guarded by the Railway personnel and all required steps have been taken to make the track safe. The DGP asked for remaining extra vigilant on the tracks and safeguard the pilgrims. He also asked for smooth traffic movement on the routes leading to the Katra to avoid traffic jams, which creates inconvenience for the visitors.
Among others, the meeting was also attended by IGPs, Rajesh Kumar and M.S.Salaria, IGP CRPF Jammu, Kuldeep Dhar, DIG, Udhampur-Reasi, Garib Dass, DIG CRPF Jammu, Narinder Singh, SSP Katra, Kulbir Singh, SSP Railway, A.K.Mahajan, Additional CEO Shrine Board, Dr. M.K.Kumar, Dy. CEOs Shrine Board, Pumkaj Sharma and Punkaj Gupta and other police officers.
