JAMMU, Jan 12: In order review the law and order situation and security arrangements ahead of Republic Day (RD) celebrations, being held in the State, a high level meeting was convened at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today.
The meeting was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, and attended by senior officers from police, intelligence and central para-military forces.
During the meeting, Mr. Rajendra sought reports from the participants about the status of law and order, security arrangements and deployment plan put in place for smooth and peaceful conduct of Republic Day celebrations in twin capital cities and all districts headquarters across the State.
Senior officers representing different security agencies briefed the meeting, about the steps taken to maintain the law and order and ensure peaceful conduct of RD celebrations. They also briefed about the state level RD parade being held at MAM stadium.
Stressing upon better coordination among all sister agencies and the civil administration, Mr. Rajendra said that to foil any attempt by the trouble makers to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere, close liaison should be maintained at every level and the officers supervising different components should be briefed accordingly. A comprehensive security grid and deployment mechanism for conduct of peaceful celebrations needs to be formulated, he said. He asked to keep an eye on the activities of anti-national elements and mount pressure on their nefarious designs.
Mr. Rajendra stressed on maintaining alertness on the borders of twin cities and on the national highway for which he advised placement of nakas to check the movement of anti-social elements. He also advised for sharing intelligence in puts in this regard and start joint patrolling of all the security formations.
The DGP also asked for making smooth traffic arrangements during the celebrations particularly the routes leading to the venues of functions in Srinagar and Jammu. Parking slots should be identified so that people participating in these functions do not face any inconvenience.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGPs, SP Vaid and VK Singh, IGPs, Dr. B Srinivas, AK Choudhary, HK Lohia, Deepak Kumar, MA Khan, Rajesh Kumar, Mukesh Singh, SL Sharma and SA Watali, DIsGP, GaribDass, SK Gupta, AK Atri, SA Beig, Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, Ali Mohmmad, VS Samyal and Nissar Ahmed, Senior officers from Intelligence, Central Para-military Forces and other police officers.
