Rajendra reviews RD arrangements

SRINAGAR, Jan 19: In order to review preparedness for Republic Day (RD) celebrations in the Valley, a high level security meeting was convened by Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar here today.
Senior officers from police, civil administration, intelligence and central para-military forces were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Mr. Rajendra sought reports from the participants about the status of security arrangements and deployment plan, put in place for smooth and peaceful conduct of RD celebrations at Bakshi Stadium and other district headquarters in the Valley.
Officers representing different security agencies briefed the meeting, about the steps taken to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful conduct of RD celebrations. They also briefed about the RD Parade being held at Bakshi Stadium.
Stressing upon better coordination among all agencies and the civil administration, Mr. Rajendra said that close liaison should be maintained at every level and the officers supervising different components should be briefed to remain extra vigilant in order to foil any attempt by the trouble makers to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere during celebrations.
A comprehensive security grid and deployment mechanism for conduct of celebrations needs to be formulated, he said. He asked them to keep an eye on the activities of anti-national elements and mount pressure to thwart their nefarious designs.
Mr. Rajendra stressed on maintaining alertness in sensitive areas and on the national highway for which he advised placement of nakas to check the movement of suspicious elements. He asked for intelligence sharing and joint patrolling of all the security formations.
DGP also asked for making efficient network connectivity arrangements to ensure liaison among different formations. He said that security of venues for the functions at different places needs to be reviewed by all concerned agencies and synergy should be ensured to make the celebrations more secure and successful.
Among others, the meeting was attended by IGPs, SJM Gillani, AG Mir and Sunil Kumar, IGs of CRPF, Mr. Atul Karwal and Nalin Prabhat, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Asgar Samoon, JD IB, Harmeet Kumar, DIGPs, Garib Dass, Nitish Kuma and GH Bhat, SSP, Amit Kumar, Dy: Commissioner, Srinagar, FA Lone, SPs, Vivek Gupta, Suihail Munawar Mir, RK Jala, Javaid Koul, Maqsood-ul-Zaman and other police officers.
Meanwhile, while taking cognizance of the rumours regarding infant deaths due to pulse polio immunization has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir to crack the whip on the rumour mongers, who spread the rumour triggering chaos and panic in the valley.
DGP has directed the IGP to identify the brain behind the rumour and take stern action under law against such elements, who are endangering the peaceful atmosphere by spreading such rumours.
