SRINAGAR, June 10: Stressing upon the stakeholders to evolve a joint mechanism and planning for ensuring peaceful Amarnath Yatra, the Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar emphasised that better synergy among different agencies is pivotal to ensure Yatra in a secure and peaceful atmosphere.
Mr. Rajendra was chairing a high level meeting of police, civil, para-military and intelligence officers at Police Control Room here today. The meeting was convened to take stock of the preparedness for Yatra 2014, commencing from June 28.
The meeting discussed security and other arrangements for the two month long Yatra. Mr. Rajendra at the outset of the meeting sought reports from the officers about the deployment of manpower of state police and other para-military forces. Arrangements with regard to traffic and other related matters were also discussed in the meeting.
Mr. Rajendra received brief from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shailendra Kumar, IGP Kashmir Zone, A. G. Mir, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Sarmad Hafiz and senior officers of police, para-military and other officers regarding the preparedness of their respective areas of jurisdiction to keep the routes leading to the Holy Cave hassle free and safe for pilgrims.
The DGP stressed upon the officers present in the meeting that while making security arrangements it should be made mandatory that the common masses do not face any inconvenience during their day-to-day activities. He said that traffic should be regulated smoothly on the identified routes of Yatra so that the commuters, particularly the business establishments and students do not suffer due to traffic jams.
The meeting was told that sufficient arrangements have already been put in place to ensure effective communication network on the routes leading to Holy Cave, besides in the interest of the pilgrims proper publicity regarding various facilities available for the yatries will be made by the concerned agencies. For the safety of pilgrims vehicle checking would be done at the identified places for which sufficient security gadgets are being provided besides, parking slots at identified locations have also been established.
Mr. Rajendra asked the officers to establish joint control rooms at different places to maintain close coordination among the stakeholders. Weather reports should be sought on daily basis and deliberations held to make required arrangements for the safety of pilgrims, he said.
To deal with any exigency, preventive measures need to be adopted including keeping volunteers of SDRF and other organisations on alert, Mr. Rajendra stressed, adding that only registered pilgrims should be allowed for Yatra.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGPs, VK Singh and SM Sahai, Com-3 -Sector, IGPs CID, Traffic, BSF, CRPF, JD IB, DIG SSB, DIG CRPF North/South, DIG CRPF (Ops), DIG CRPF (Ops), DIG SSB, DIG CKR, SKR Anantnag, SSPs/SPs Srinagar, Anantnag, Bandipore, Kulgam and Awantipora and other police officers.
