SRINAGAR, July 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Police, in its 12th Central Police Welfare meeting, unanimously decided to revise various welfare schemes for its personnel including enhancement in welfare relief for personnel, who die in service.
The relief would be granted out of Contributory Police Welfare Fund (CPWF) at the enhanced rates, applicable to all ranks of the force contributing towards the Fund on monthly basis.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. Attended by more than 300 participants, representing all units and ranks of the force, the meeting reviewed and discussed the existing welfare schemes and decided on various revolutionary new schemes for the welfare of the police personnel and their families.
In the opening address, Mr Rajendra said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has become a large family and remained in the service of the nation on various fronts. Police men being engaged in the public service round the clock have little time to attend to their personal chores. To take care of its personnel and their families, the Organization established CPWF within the department and every member of the Organization contributes towards the Fund on monthly basis. It provides assistance to the needy personnel and their wards from their own resources. He said that the welfare of the jawans and officers and their families is among the areas, the organization is focusing on priority.
The DGP said that during previous meeting of the Welfare Committee held in February, 2012, a number of new schemes were introduced and a large number of serving and retired personnel, besides the martyr’s families have been benefited. He said that the occasion provides an opportunity to all ranks from bottom to top level to assemble at a platform and discuss the welfare schemes being carried out under CPWF.
After threadbare discussion, the meeting decided to enhance quantum of special welfare relief for the Next of Kins (NoKs) of deceased personnel, who die in service, from the existing scale of Rs. 10 lakh to 12 lakh. The relief would be granted out of CPWF and competence of different level committees to grant welfare loans and relief was also enhanced by the meeting unanimously. A high level committee was constituted to examine ways and means and introduce a housing loan scheme for the police personnel. Free accommodation at capital cities for the police wards from far-flung areas getting coaching for professional entrance tests, was also decided in the meeting.
Later, DGP announcing the decisions said that the details would be circulated through the print media for publicity among all members of police parivar, deployed in different corners of the State.
