JAMMU, May 13: Director General Prisons, K Rajendera today visited District Jail Kathua and Sub Jail Hiranagar and reviewed security arrangements.
Mr Rajendera’s visit comes close on the heals of the killing of Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay in Kot Bhalwal jail.
The DG Prisons reviewed security scenario in both the jails with security force officers, guarding these prisons as well as the district police officers.
He directed the staff to ensure strict surveillance in the jail to prevent any untoward incident.
In order to ascertain the welfare of prisoners including under-trials lodged in Kathua and Hiranagar jails, Mr Rajendera held details discussions regarding the problems faced by local as well as foreign prisoners including Pakistanis.
He went around the entire complexes of the two jails also inspected all barrack blocks of the jails. He passed on directions to the concerns officers of the jails to remain extra vigilance and exercise close watch on the activities of the jail inmates in order to avoid any untoward incident inside the jail premises.
He later held an `Orderly Room’ for the staff and gave a patient hearing to their service related problems. He assured them that all their genuine grievances including shortage of staff would be redressed at the earliest.
