Rain water enters shops, RDD in deep slumber

MENDHAR, Sept 28: Due to heavy rain in Mendhar town, the flooded water in the main market entered many shops and damaged traders property besides goods worth lakhs.
Due to choked drains, the water was flowing in the lanes and main bazaar. The water level at many places for 1.5 to 2 ft and it entered many shops destroying goods of the traders.
The angry local traders held protest and alleged that the local Sub Divisional administration and the Rural Development Department (RDD) authorities have failed to divert the rain water of the Mendhar market in spite of repeated requests and hue and cry by the Beopar Mandal. The drains are not cleared by them.
They said that there was heavy rain during early hour today resulting into water logging which caused great damage to the shopkeepers. There is strong resentment among the business community.
The incessant rains worsened the situation as most of the roads in the town were inundated causing great inconvenience to the common people. The drainage blocked led to water logging and inundation of the town.
After rain there was a flood like situation in the entire markets of Mandhar town. In connection with all this, people accused the Rural Development Department and the local Sarpanchs as well.
Balram Sharma, Mohammad Rashid, Rajat Kapoor and others said that the rain water from residential and non-residential areas of town clogged here in the market and entered their shops. They said that for a long time the drains were not cleared by the RDD. People sought intervention of DC, Poonch into the matter.
