Rain, thundershowers in Kashmir after three days of pleasant weather 

SRINAGAR: After witnessing a pleasant weather during the last three days, rain and thundershowers lashed the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley on Saturday, resulting in dip in the day temperature.

A Met department spokesperson said that light to moderate rain would occur at some places during the next 48 hours under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which has hit the region on Saturday. “The weather will improve from Monday onwards,” he said

He said a fresh WD, which originated from the Arabian Sea and is approaching the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, would hit the region on May 13. “Under the influence of this WD, light to heavy rain would occur at most places on May 14 and May 15,” he added.

After witnessing above normal night temperature, people in Srinagar woke up to a sunny Saturday morning. The weather remained sunny throughout the day, but light to moderate rain lashed in the city in the evening, resulting in dip in the day temperature.

As per forecast, light rain and thundershowers would occur during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 23 degree and 13 degree, respectively.

Rain lashed world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, after sunny weather during the last three days.

Bright sunshine greeted world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, in the morning. However, the ski resort, which remained deserted since lockdown was imposed in March to curtail the spread of COVID-19, received rain in the evening, resulting in dip in the maximum temperature.

Rain and thundershowers lashed other parts of the valley, including Kupwara in north, Qazigund, gateway to the valley and tourist resort of Kokernag. (agencies)
