Railways likely to increase passenger fares in all classes

NEW DELHI: Indian Railways is likely to announce a hike in passenger fares this week, with increase likely to be between five paise per kilometer to 40 paise per kilometer.

According to Railway Ministry sources, this increase will apply to all categories, from air-conditioned categories to unreserved and suburban monthly-quarterly season ticket fares. It is also learned that the Railway Board has already prepared a new tariff plan and got the green signal from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The sources further said that the Railway Board was asked to wait till the Jharkhand Assembly elections were completed.  After the counting on Monday, the new rate may be announced at any time, the sources said. (AGENCIES)
