Railways conduct trial run of glass-roofed train in Valley

SRINAGAR, Feb 22: The Railways today held a trial run for a new glass roof Vista domed train from Srinagar to Banihal.
The train service was announced by the Government last year with an aim to give boost to the tourism and provide delightful travelling experience to the tourists.
Chief Area Manager, Hari Mohan said the train was first of its kind in Kashmir and the commuter travelling on this train will have this special coach with glass roof Vistadome, rotatable chairs and LCDs for entertainment.

It has glass roof and windows so that the commuters can enjoy the outside view. “The train has been introduced to give a boost to tourism. It has big windows and open roof which can be opened at will. It is air conditioned and also has a pantry.  With all these facilities we want to welcome tourists here,” he said, adding the train would run from next month.
Asked whether the train was meant for tourists only, he said, “anyone can avail the facilities but fare will be little higher and whoever pays the fare can enjoy the ride he said, adding it’s the property of people and they should ensure its safety.
Commuters were delighted to travel in the new coach. “I have never seen such train and I hope it will encourage tourists to come here,” a commuter said.
Another commuter said that train would help tourists to explore the rural landscape of the valley and give impetus to the tourism of the valley. “It will help the economy of Kashmir,” he said.
