Rail service remains suspended in Kashmir for security reasons

SRINAGAR :  Rail service from Baramulla in north Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region via Srinagar remained suspended for the fourth day today for security reasons following a general strike, called by separatist organisations in protest against killing of a teenager and injuries to three others in fresh Army firing in the frontier district of Kupwara, yesterday.
Altogether four people, including a women, had died in security force action on April 12 and 13 in the Kupwara district. A railway official said all rail running between Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla in north Kashmir remained suspended for security reasons.
He said similarly, rail service between Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region also remained suspended. He said the rail service was suspended as there was apprehension of trouble due to strike call in the Valley.
Security of the passengers and railway property was necessary, he said adding that in the past rail property, including trains, were made target during the strike and protests in the Valley. (AGENCIES)
