KOLKATA, May 30:
In a politically significant move, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is likely to attend the meeting of INDIA bloc scheduled on June 6.
The decision to join the crucial meeting amidst volatile political situation came after Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi spoke to the former Chief Minister of West Bengal on Thursday for more than half an hour.
According to the political observers, Mamata’s going to the meeting is politically significant amid growing uncertainty over the future of the opposition coalition following a string of electoral setbacks suffered by several of its key constituents.
Sources also indicated that the Trinamool Congress chief may attend the meeting, which is being viewed as crucial for charting the alliance’s future course after disappointing performances in recent Assembly elections.
The recent election results have rattled the opposition camp in several states across the nation.

The Trinamool Congress suffered a defeat in West Bengal, while the Left Front lost its long-held stronghold in Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, actor-politician Vijay emerged as the new Chief Minister, with the DMK failing to retain power.
Political observers believe the June 6 meeting will focus not only on strategies to counter the BJP but also on ways to ensure the political survival and relevance of the alliance partners in the changed political landscape.
The possibility of Banerjee’s participation has added to the significance of the gathering, with many seeing her as a leader who could once again play a decisive role in opposition politics.
For Rahul Gandhi, the meeting is being viewed as a critical test of leadership as he attempts to keep the opposition alliance intact at a time when questions are being raised over its cohesion and future.
Concerns over the stability of the INDIA bloc have also intensified due to developments in Tamil Nadu. (UNI)
