Rahul pats Cong-led UPA Govt for Food Security: MNREGA

DEORIA, May 9: Congress vide-president Rahul Gandhi today said the people belonging to the financially-weaker sections were geeting food and employment, owing to the schemes implemented by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.

“The Congress has always remained concerned about the people of the country and brought schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) and the Food Security Act for the common-men,”Mr Gandhi said in an election meeting here.

The people of two mindsets were having a clash in this Lok Sabha election, the Congress vice-president asserted. “Congress beleives in associating itself with the common people, while the BJP is doing caste and religion based politics and promoting communalism,” he alleged.

Patting his government by counting its achievements, Mr Gandhi assured free medical services to the poor, if his party remains in power at the Centre.

The Modi government in Gujrat has favoured some industrialists very much and Gautam Adani is one of them. “He was provided land at very cheap rate, all thanks to the Gujrat government,”the Congress vice-president commented.

He further hit at the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh government for not implementing the scheme of cheap foodgrains to the poors in the state.

Deoria Lok Sabha seat in going to polls in the last phase on May 12 next.
