Informed and authoritative agencies are alarmed at the revival of radical militarism in Kashmir valley in recent months. Actually, it is for quite some time that Kashmir watchers and observers have been alerting the administration against rising crescendo of pro-ISIS and jihadi outfits. Infiltration has increased, gun battles between security forces and militants have shown upward trend, radicalization is at its full swing, clerics brought from outside the Valley, especially from rabid segments of radicals, are freely preaching sedition.
We are not aware whether the Government has a clear cut policy to counter radicalization movement in Kashmir. Taking into account similar situation in other countries, it becomes clear that it is very difficult to have and pursue any viable anti-radicalization policy. It is simply ideological thrust supported by brutal muscle power. Policy planners in our country have not yet fully become conscious of the looming threat of radicalization to the state and the nation. We know that Government circles are trying to downplay this threat. Even the Home Minister sees everything under control in Kashmir. If you close your eyes you will naturally see no evil.
