JAMMU, Dec 30: The activists of Pradesh Youth Congress, alliance partners in the State Government, today held protest demonstrations at various district headquarters, seeking implementation of 73rd Amendment  in the J&K State Panchayati Raj Act.
The Congress men targeted the alliance partner, National Conference for denying powers to the Panchayats and becoming a stumbling block in the implementation of 73rd  Amendment. With the clear objective to garner public support in view of coming elections, the Youth Congress activists  held protest demonstrations outside the office of DC Kathua, Samba and  Jammu today.
Chetan Partap Singh secretary IYC Incharge J&K Affairs, Pranav Shagotra vice president PYC and general secretary Manjit Singh Jatt were leading  the protest in Jammu while Pankaj Basotra (advocate) Youth leader and president Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha constituency spearheaded the march in Kathua. Vinod Kumar, DYC president Samba  was heading the protest outside the office of DC Samba.
These leaders strongly criticised the NC and Chief Miniser Omar Abdullah for denying powers to the Panchayats. They claimed that only NC was road block in the implementation of  73rd Amendment in the J&K Sate. They alleged that all the NC leaders were against it while the Congress was serious for according powers to the Panchayats.
They further claimed that according powers to the Panchayats  was the sole motto of the Congress Party and it could not be implemented due to negative attitude of the NC leadership. They held NC mainly responsible for the same. They also submitted memoranda to the DCs for the State Chief Minister, seeking implementation of  the much awaited Amendment.
