JAMMU, Aug 25: The activists of Pradesh Youth Congress took out protest rallies at Ganderbal, Kargil and Kishtwar district headquarters, seeking implementation of 73rd and 74th amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act.
At Chief Minister’s constituency, Ganderbal, the IYC secretary and in-charge PYC J&K, Chetan Chouhan, was leading. PYC vice president Parnav Shagotra, general secretary Manjit Singh Jatt, Aamir Rasool Srinagar Lok Sabha president, Firdous Ahmed Malik and Muzaffar Ahmed Parray were accompanying.
A large number of PYC activists started their protest march from main chowk Ganderbal and then reached at DC office. They held demonstration there for some time. Several leaders addressed the gathering there. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the DC for the State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
At Kargil, PYC president Shahnawaz Choudhary was leading the protest. Accompanied by a large number of Youth Congress activists, the PYC leaders including Mohd Riyaz Khan started their protest march from Conference Hall in the town towards DC Office. They were shouting slogans demanding empowerment of Panchayats. They submitted a memorandum to DC Kargil. Shahnawaz addressed the gathering and said that without making 73rd and 74th amendments in the Panchyati Raj Act, powers can not be granted to the Panchayats in the State. He said Congress party was committed for according full powers to the Panchayats.
In Kishtwar town also similar protest rally was taken out by the PYC activists in support of their demand. Assembly president Nadeem Iqbal, Touseef Iqbal Bhat and former DYC president Sheikh Nasir Hussain were leading. The youth activists were shouting slogans in support of their main demand. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
Lok Sabha president Udhampur-Doda said that first phase of submitting memoranda at tehsil/ district headquarters of all assembly segments of Udhampur-Doda parliamentary constituency concluded today.
