SAMBA, Oct 3: A large number of people from Purmandal and its adjoining areas took out a strong protest rally from Purmandal Morh to Bari Brahmana on National Highway against the attitude of Government for total neglect of the Purmanal Block of Samba district.
The villagers from Purmandal block, under the banner of Grameen Sanghrash Samiti Purmandal including several Sarpanchs and Panchs besides social activists came out on the roads to lodge their protest against the Government and the official apathy. Taking banner and placards in hands they were shouting slogans against the Government and District Administration.
Prom Purmandal Morh to Bari Brahamana, they took out protest march on National Highway and staging protest at SIDCO Complex Chowk, they moved to the office of DC Samba.
They pointed out that Block headquarters was at Purmandal while all the offices including BDO, CDPO, ZEO, BMO, PHE, PDD etc have been kept at Bari Brahamana for the convenience of the officials and the not the people of the Block. Zonal Education Officer has kept his office at his own whims and fancies at Kunjwani in Jammu. Only Police Station was located at block headquarters. They said earlier, a few offices were there, but the officers shifted them to Bari Brahmana for their convenience while the people have to suffer and reach Bari Brahmana to cover nearly 20 km distance.
At DC office Samba, these people again held demonstration and later submitted a memorandum to Assistant Commissioner as DC Mubarak Singh was not available. They gave two weeks time to District Administration and warned that if it failed to act, the people would come on tractor trolleys and block national highway and also conduct ‘Gherao’ of DC.
Prominent among those who addressed gathering included Hem Raj, Sagar Singh, Vaam Dev, Jagdish Singh, Tara Chand, Yash Pal and Dr Rajesh Kumar.
