SAMBA, May 8: Samba police arrested four Punjab based drug smugglers, recovered 354 grams of Heroin (Chitta) and 13.700 Kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) in three different operations conducted during the last two days.
According to the report, all the consignments are having market value between Rs. 18.00 lac to 20.00 lac. The consignments were being smuggled from Kashmir to Punjab by the drug smugglers in trucks used to carry essential commodities in this lockdown period, police said.
It said a case FIR No. 114/2020 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act was registered at P/S Samba. Samba police on reliable information intercepted a truck bearing registered No. PB13AW-0653 at Mansar Naka laid by Police Post Mansar which was on way from Kashmir towards Punjab. During checking of the vehicle, 254 grams of Heroin (Chitta) was recovered which was concealed in tool box in a professional manner to avoid being noticed during checking by the Police.
The driver and conductor both having share in narcotics consignment were arrested and the truck was also seized, police added.
The arrested persons both residents of Malerkotla, Sangrur (Punjab) have been identified as Nasar S/o Nazir & Mohd. Saleem S/o Ahmed Ali.
A case FIR No. 113/2020 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Samba.
Police said on May 6, a team of Samba police on reliable information intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. PB13AR-6054, which was on way from Kashmir towards Punjab at Mansar Naka laid by PP Mansar. On checking of the vehicle, 100 gms of Heroin (Chitta) was recovered which was rolled inside the jute rope. The accused person namely Jameel Ahmed, S/o Abdul Majeed R/O Malerkotla, Sangrur Punjab has been arrested on the spot and contraband item along with truck was also seized.
A case FIR No. 112/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act registered at P/S Samba. On 06.05.2020, acting on reliable information a gas tanker bearing Registration No. DL1GC-1857 which was on its way from Kashmir towards Punjab was intercepted at Mansar Naka laid by PP Mansar. During checking of the gas tanker, a total of 13.700 Kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) which was concealed in a spare tyre was recovered. The accused driver namely Surjit Singh S/o Jarnail Singh R/O Dharamkot, Moga (Punjab) has been arrested on the spot and the contraband item along with vehicle were seized.
Terming it a major success SSP Samba, Shakti Pathak termed it a major success for the police. Talking to reporters here today along with Additional SP, Faisal Qureshi and other officers he said district police has tightened its noose on the mafia involved in drug trafficking and despite the police being preoccupied with maintenance of lockdown no let up has been shown to such anti social elements and drug mafia in the district.
