The members of various organizations amid raising slogans assembled at Gole market under the banner of Jan Jagriti Manch (JJM) and took out a rally via Khalsa Chowk, Shivaji Chowk and culminated at Bahu Plaza where several speakers addressed the gathering and condemned the gruesome incident of 1984. They condemned the massacre and also castigated the Union Government for shielding the perpetrators.
Addressing the gathering, All India Sikh Students Federation president Paramjeet Singh termed the 1984 massacre as Government sponsored genocide. Expressing concern over delay of justice, he rued that it was very unfortunate that in the biggest democracy of world, perpetrators of genocide were roaming free.
Mohinder Pal Singh, general secretary, Jan Jagriti Manch, termed the communalism as a dangerous weapon of State to divide masses and for diverting the attention from real issues. “Such types of genocide had severely hampered the development of country and some foreign forces were also behind such episodes”, he said.
Cathleen, a University student, said that the divisive forces were strong enough and they always strive to divide masses to divert their attention from real issues, being faced by the common people.
Appealing the general masses, she said that the need of the hour was to unite the like-minded people, by launching a massive moment against communal forces.
Among others who spoke were, chief organizer of Bhai Kanaya Nishkam Seva Society, Mohinder Singh, president of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Kistri Jatha, Tajinder Singh Premee, president of Nirbho Nirvair Organization, Harjeet Singh, Puneet Kour, etc.
